La Maison, despite its high-quality and price, started as a neighbourhood bakery at Paul-Lincke-Ufer 17 in Kreuzberg. In October 2023, they opened a high-end boutique not far away but more accessible by subway at Urbanstraße 70A.
In constrast to the old shop that features a shabby chic décor, the new one has a modern and minimalistic interior design, with large bright glass doors and windows, open space, as well as a natural wood colour palette.
I have tried some of their pastries before, but this time we ordered an almond croissant and a pain suisse. The almond croissant had a rich filling, with a very strong and distinctive almond fragrance lingering in the nostrils. The pain suisse was crafted meticulously with a strong flavour and chocolate aroma. Generally, we feel the pastries here have stronger flavours compared with Sofi. The service is much nicer, more polite, yet not overly attentive. Simply put: everything looks good and everything tastes as good as it looks. We can not wait to come back next time to try more.
I have posted most of these photos on Instagram, especially the one above as a compliment. The shop liked all of them except this last one. In the beginning, I was really puzzled as to why they deliberately left out this one. Then I suddenly realised: it’s because they are French! Talk about barking up the wrong tree.
